When does mitosis happen in the animal body?

The two main roles of mitosis are growth and repair. Mitosis is a cyclical process as cells constantly need replacing. None of the cells in your body right at this moment are the same cells that you were born with. They have a shelf life and some cells live longer than others, with muscle cells sometimes taking 15 years to regenerate.
