Can I use organic lime to purify fish tank water?

Hi Folks, I have a question, can I use lime (made of snail and oyster's burnt shell) to clean a fish tank? I have seen in my village in Nepal, the farmers do clean their well water by putting organic lime. The germs are eradicate and water becomes cleaner. If I put it in my future aquarium water, will my fishes die?
